When asked to expand and renovate the Alumni Center at the University of Texas at Austin, originally designed by renowned architect Charles Moore and UT Architecture Professor Richard Dodge in the 1980s, Miró Rivera Architects gracefully celebrated the intricate forms and geometry of the original structure while heralding new and engaging opportunities for the site and building.

The new addition extends the building footprint to include a reception area, banquet room, catering kitchen, and board room. The limestone-clad entry stair metaphorically beckons all to the infinite possibilities that an education from the University of Texas can offer. The new board room, centered below the striking wood-paneled form of the original roof and enhanced by natural light from the clerestory and surrounding windows, creates an inspiring environment conducive to creative thinking.

AEC's design role included artful reworking of steel columns and beams "behind the scenes" to highlight striking finish materials and expansive spaces.
